The Big Bang – A Primer

Introduction: Big Bang Evidence Is Very Strong

2 minute read plus 2 videos

Let’s Start With … In The Beginning

Here’s a quick primer on the Big Bang.  The conclusion here is: we can be reasonably confident that the Big Bang triggered the creation of our universe because we can observe evidence showing the universe behaves as it should if such a Big Bang were to have occurred.

Big Bang Overview

As you probably already know, some of our most brilliant scientists have shown that everything started with a bang – the Big Bang.  At least that’s the theory.  For those who are unfamiliar with the accepted definition of how the Big Bang happened, check out this 5 minute video from a reliable source – National Geographic.  It’s a very clear overview that primarily concentrates on what scientists theorize happened in the first 100 seconds of time.  It’s quite good.

Strong Evidence For The Big Bang

The question is, do we really know the Big Bang happened?  No one was there to see the events take place in-person so how can we be sure?  Are there any facts and/or pieces of evidence pointing to such an event?

Well, there’s good news here because the evidence for the Big Bang is quite strong.  In fact, some of the predictions made as the theory was refined over time have been validated by factual evidence that we can observe.  When theoretical predictions are validated by factual evidence, our confidence in those theories increases.

This 5 minute video, produced by Fraser Cain, a science blogger at Universe Today, does a good job summarizing the four well known and well documented story lines used to validate Big Bang theories plus he mentions several others.  Take a look – he does a nice job.

Big Bang Evidence

The Well Documented Evidence Presented By Fraser Cain:

  • Edwin Hubble’s discovery that the universe is expanding
  • Elements exist in the universe in quantities consistent with the theory
  • The Penzias and Wilson discovery of predicted background radiation
  • Discovery of large structures in the universe

Conclusion

We can be reasonably confident that the Big Bang triggered the creation of our universe because we can observe evidence showing the universe behaves as it should if such a Big Bang were to have occurred.

I am a believer in God and want to be able to express/argue with family members who aren’t with the goal of having them become believers through being convinced to read, watch, and learn from the opportunity presented.
